Pay Day Wish List (featuring ASOS)

I’m addicted to ASOS as you all know. Most of what I buy is from there as, personally, I think their plus-size range which incorporates lots of different labels is generally a good one.

Sure, it can be hit and miss and sometimes you can be hard pressed to find anything you really love, but doesn’t that go with all shopping?

Anyway, I’ve got my eye on lots of nice things at the moment, some of which could be considered solid basics which pleases me. I’m a sucker for a good black dress or t-shirt I can just throw on some mornings and feel good.

Block heeled sandals, £14.50 ~  Retro print smock dress, £18 ~ Cut-out shopper bag, £22

I don’t know why I’m so attracted to those heels as I rarely wear them but they’re so cute! I may have already bought the dress… and the bag would add just a delightful pop of colour!

Spot print t-shirt, £12 ~ Skater mac, £65 ~ Skirt, £18

The skirt really looks like the school skirt I so hated as a kid but I think it would look great with a block colour tee tucked in (maybe coral?). I love the polka dots and the mac is a bit of a lustful piece but I can image myself spinning gleefully around in it during a (light) April shower.

Round neck body, £12.99 ~ Inflatable Swan pyjama set, £24 ~ Jersey dungarees, £27

Those pyjamas though! IMHO ASOS Curve do the best pyjamas ever, and I’ve already got two pairs. Will I make it a hat trick?

I really love the neckline on this body suit and have definitely already added the dungarees to my basket. I like the cuffed legs and the fact they’re made of soft jersey.

So these are the items on my radar for this pay day. I will allow myself a couple of pieces!

What are you digging this month?

Also, do you like to treat yourself come pay day – and what’s your favourite pay day treat? ❤

The Wild Card*

melissa-mccarthy-dancing

Just a quick one from me. I shall be back in touch around the weekend but from tomorrow morning I shall be wearing my Bridesmaid head!

Sadly, I didn’t manage to halve my body weight before the big event and my skin is far from flawless. My chins aren’t singular, my hair not perfect.

I didn’t even manage to get the contact lenses I was planning to unveil at the ceremony, that would have the congregation gasping “My God, you’re beautiful, Mrs Bass!”

None of that matters. I know this more than ever that the most precious things in life aren’t things at all (no matter how much toot I get from ASOS).

Friday is all about joy; pure unfiltered joy. And dancing to early 00’s R&B in a great dress.

Obvs.

*Melissa McCarthy is ‘The Wild Card’ according to the Bridesmaids film posters, hence the title of this post. I think I’m most like Megan (with a dash of Annie)

To Thine Own #Selfie Be True

IMG_20140729_120428
Here’s one I took earlier

What is it about the cult of the #selfie? It has to be one of the most interesting and baffling things to come out of the 21st century and specifically off the back of this cray social networking phenomenon.

I am the worst culprit there is, posting several a week. I am sure my friends are sick to death of my stupid face.

I can’t tell you why other people do it but I suppose I can try to explain why I do. Why I can’t go into the bathroom at work on a school day and not take a picture of the nice outfit I’ve chosen to wear.

For me, it’s not because I think I am the bomb. I do not think my latest #selfie should appear underneath the definition of sexy in the Oxford English Dictionary (I’d be at least 100th in line).

I am not the most confident in my looks as a rule. Sure, who is? But I have been horrified in the past by pictures of me caught unawares at weddings and parties. Horrified. So I think part of the #selfie thing is about control. I can delete, delete, delete at will and chose my best angles, my favourite environments, lighting, etc. Horribly vain, isn’t it?

It’s only just now that I have allowed people to capture me au natural in the wild and tag me on Facebook which is why there are pictures of me now that I haven’t taken. *gasp*

I want to record what I currently look like, how I looked before I found exercise, how my body has changed since I started fueling it with better things.

I feel a lot better these days (20lbs down and counting) but I think it’s confidence that has made me look better. For me confidence comes with weight loss, I wish it didn’t. I’m also coming to terms with the fact that even Angelina Jolie takes a bad picture every once in a while†.

As for the #ootd toilet mirror snaps? Sometimes a girl just wants to show off a cute dress. Where’s the harm in that?

So there it is: for me it’s about #control, #cutedresses and #recording #change. Maybe I’ll cut down. Maybe I’ll get worst, who knows?

Incidentally, the other day when encouraging my nine year old step son to get in shot for a family #selfie, he shouted “Nooooo! I don’t want to be a hashtag selfie on Facebook!” and ran away. Sign of these modern times?

Where do you stand on the #selfie? Are you a fan or do you abhor them? I would love to know!

†Yeah right!

Vintage Dresses, Hula Hoops and the Local Cemetery

This week, frankly, has been a little bitch. However, amid the crumminess there are always little nuggets of sheer happiness and that’s something that a bad week cannot take away.

I’m celebrating the weekend by staying in with a head cold and mainlining Parks & Recreation, which is so much fun when there’s an apparent heat wave shimmying around outside.

But meh. My week in pictures.

This Dress

There is nothing, but nothing better for the soul than a good dress. In my world the best ones are always floral, usually tiny ditsy print and the kind of thing I never ever envisaged being into as a glittery dog collar wearing twenty year old (true story).

I got this one through an Instagram sale, from a lovely woman called Sian Kisses (she blogs here).

Buying pre-loved items via Instagram is so very modern, isn’t it? Of course you can’t go doing it willy nilly but it’s the new ASOS Marketplace if you ask me. Plus, you can envisage what an item will look like on you since you have an idea what they person you are purchasing it from looks like size wise, if that makes sense? Good for a curvy girl like me, anyway.

These Guys

God. I love them. They make every day fun and fabulous. If they ever leave me for greater careers (which they will), I will be very sad. I might just follow them around for the rest of my days.

This day we found a secret garden or so we thought, but it only contained gardening equipment. And no dead bodies either.

Being Active

I pumped my way vigorously through two Zumba sessions, masses of brisk walking and next to no hula hooping, but only because my front room is too small to twirl around in. I did plan to teach myself the basics through Youtube tutorials, but it’s just not possible.

My only option is to move outside. I’m going to con someone into giving me lessons for free when the weather stabilises. Fun and frisky!

White Chocolate Mice, Gifts and Simpsons Lego

Sometimes the only thing that will cure a day is an entire bag of White Chocolate Mice. Mmmmmmmmm.

My super-cute husband bought me this gorgeous pin-up box, to keep all my secrets in. It currently contains, simply, a note that says “My dick”. Funny guy…

And Simpsons Lego, which speaks for itself. Lego is my favourite thing in the world almost, I’m a completely obsessed fully grown woman.

So, that my friends, was my week. I’m so cray!

Now I’m going to go back to bed.
